Phil Wilce (GB) - Managing Director Formara

Taking a 45 year old commercial printing company into the future

Originally from a sales background, Phil joined Formara as their Sales Manager in 1990. Through the ensuing years, The Company engaged with digital printing technology through the 1990s with Print-on-Demand and variable data printing being the main focus. Phil was part of a Management Buy-Out team in 2003 and ultimately took the reins at Formara as their MD in 2014. He now leads the business into the future, drawing on and developing the skills of his team as they make the transition to Automated, Integrated Marketing ‘AIM’ provider. He is a member of The National Council for the British Association of Print & Communication.

Joris Heirbaut (B) - Director media and communication city of Antwerp

An A-typical way for the public procurement of print.

How do you set about communicating in a relevant and tailored manner with 512,000 Antwerp residents? And how do you tell visitors, entrepreneurs and students that Antwerp is the perfect place to spend leisure time, set up or expand their business or start their studies?

These questions inspired Joris Heirbaut to choose the city of Antwerp as his employer back in 2011. The city of Antwerp developed a media strategy to ensure that the right message was delivered to the right audience at the right time. The city focused its strategy on digital communication channels. Despite the apparent success of this choice, printed communication also remains a key element in the media mix used by the city of Antwerp. Non-digital residents and the disadvantaged need to be just as well informed, and must also be made aware and motivated. Outdoor print is essential too for major or smaller event campaigns.

How does the city of Antwerp go about purchasing its print efficiently? When you know that every government organisation is bound to respect all kinds of purchasing laws –given the fact that it concerns spending taxpayers’ money– this is no easy task.

But Antwerp wouldn’t be Antwerp if it hadn’t found an atypical method for the digital procurement of print ….

Peter Janssen (NL) - Owner, Endless Branding

How can online print contribute to the sale of digitally-produced POS material?

Endless Branding has been active for over 30 years in the design and production of point of sale displays. In recent years we have seen tremendous changes in retail and therefore in our market too. These days retailers all have their own custom-made requirements and marketeers aim to “seize the moment” more than ever before.
On the other hand, budgets are under pressure and procurement tries to cluster as much as possible in order to maximise returns. The consequence: a standard display that leaves you cold and has no chance of success in a promotion. Our company received more and more requests for tailored solutions in smaller and smaller runs, and we took this opportunity to create Endless Branding.

Tom Peire (B) - CEO Four Pees

How e-commerce & production automation go hand in hand

Tom Peire is a sales and marketing professional with extensive experience of the graphics market.  He has already worked at various companies in a number of sales and marketing positions.  As the company marketing director at Artwork Systems he successfully managed all global marketing activities for the product ranges under Enfocus and Artwork Systems. Tom began at Enfocus in July 2001 as marketing manager and was instrumental in the growth and success of the company’s software products.  Before moving to Enfocus, Tom had already built a remarkable career at some leading companies, including Scitex Europe. During this time he held a variety of marketing and sales positions.

Four Pees is named after the four ‘Ps’ in marketing – product, price, place and promotion – and launches, distributes, integrates and supports solutions for the printing and publishing industry. The company is primarily involved in products for collaboration, automation and quality optimisation for many different markets: document archives, commercial printing, publishing, packaging and large format printing.

Wouter Haan (NL) - Owner Simian (Reclameland/Drukland/Flyerzone)

How to combine state of the art online sales and own production in an online print company?

Wouter Haan started in 2008 with online printing company Reclameland. In 2015 Wouter took over the print sites and Flyerzone and since 2016 the three sites are operating under the name Simian B.V.

Unique to Simian is that it is the only online printing company in the Netherlands with its own production site. At the online printing office automation is key. The options and possibilities in the user-friendly ordering process are endless and because the production process is organized as efficiently as possible, the jobs can be printed and delivered quickly. At Simian, 125 people work together to produce 1,500 orders per day.

BOPE: Location

A seminal totem in the Brussels skyline; neither tower, nor pyramid, a little bit cubic, a little bit spherical, half-way between sculpture and architecture, a relic of the past with a determinedly futuristic look, museum and exhibition centre; the Atomium is, at once, an object, a place, a space, a Utopia and the only symbol of its kind in the world, which eludes any kind of classification.  More info.
